Since 1 July 2019, rule 111A (indexation of amounts) of the Legal Profession Uniform General Rules 2015 has applied to sections 291-293 of the Legal Profession Uniform Law (Uniform Law) and section 99 of the Legal Profession Uniform Application Act 2014 (Vic) (Victorian Application Act) to adjust the indexed amounts in accordance with the published consumer price index. This ensures the regulatory authorities and the Victorian Civil and Administrative Tribunal maintain their jurisdiction to determine costs disputes in line with inflation.
On 2 May 2023, the editorial note to rule 111A was updated to include the indexed amounts that will apply in the Uniform Law and Victorian Application Act from 1 July 2023 to 30 June 2024. These amounts are set out below:
Financial year | Original amount — $100,000 |
Original amount — $10,000 |
Original amount — $25,000 |
---|---|---|---|
2023-2024 | $185,460 | $18,550 | $46,365 |
The calculation of the indexed amounts is based on the latest CPI number published by the Australian Statistician in April 2023.
