The Legal Services Regulatory Dialogue (Dialogue) established under the Australia-United Kingdom Free Trade Agreement has published a report (PDF, 4.4 MB) on its work.
The Dialogue was established as a formal mechanism for regulators and professional bodies in Australia and the United Kingdom to discuss issues affecting cross-border legal practice, including admission and requalification pathways, legal business structures, and regulatory settings. The report provides an overview of the legal profession and practising requirements in each jurisdiction and the work undertaken by the Dialogue. It also sets out recommendations for governments, regulators and legal profession peak bodies to consider.
The acting CEO of the Council has reflected on the value of the Dialogue process in this media release (PDF, 185.5 KB).
The Dialogue’s minimum term under the Free Trade Agreement came to an end on 31 May 2026. Members of the Dialogue have agreed to meet on an annual basis to share information about developments in each jurisdiction.
