Rene Le Miere graduated from the University of Western Australia with a Bachelor of Economics, Bachelor of Jurisprudence (hons) and Bachelor of Laws (hons). He practiced as a solicitor from 1978 before joining the Western Australian Bar in 1988, where he practiced principally in commercial litigation. He took silk in 1993.
Rene was appointed a judge of the Supreme Court of Western Australia in 2004. He was the senior puisne judge from 2015 until his retirement from the Court in February 2022. During his time on the Court Rene held several positions including as a member of the Chief Justices’ Rules Harmonisation Committee and the Australian Judicial Officers Association Governing Council.
Rene is a former member of the Law Reform Commission of Western Australia and was President of the Law Society of Western Australia in 1989 and 1990.
Outside of the law, Rene was a board member of Perth Institute of Contemporary Art and the Perth Theatre Company, a member of Edith Cowan University Council and Chair of the Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts.
Rene now practices as an arbitrator and mediator from Quayside Chambers in Perth.
